Daily

Last month, the World’s 50 Best Bars were officially announced for 2024, revealing a diverse array of bars and cocktail lounges across the world that capture the best of creativity in the world of spirits. This year, Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City, Mexico, ranks as the top bar in the world, marking the first time a bar from Mexico takes the No. 1 spot.

Reminiscent of 1920s Hollywood, Handshake Speakeasy lies behind a secret door, revealing a dimly lit room full of vintage spirits. Timeless and innovative cocktails include Hanky Panky, featuring century-old amaro, and an Old-Fashioned elevated with umami-packed brown butter mushrooms.

This year’s list features bars from 28 cities, with 16 new entries spanning places like Tokyo, Bangkok, Melbourne, Milan, Paris and New York City. The Big Apple leads the Americas with four bars in the top 50: Double Chicken Please and Overstory, as well as new entries Martiny’s and Superbueno. Taking No. 14, Double Chicken Please has two sides: The Coop and Free Range, each evoking different themes and drinks.

London reigns supreme as cocktail capital of Europe, with four bars taking the top 19 spots in 2024. Coming in at No. 4, Tayēr + Elementary is a boutique cocktail bar driven by creative concoctions mixed with modern techniques and old-fashioned practices. Other top-ranking London bars include Connaught Bar, Satan’s Whiskers and Scarfes Bar.

The best bar in Europe, however, can be found in Barcelona. Sips boasts an island-bar design and eye-catching drinks like Primordial (whisky, port and pear served in two metal hands meant to be cradled and sipped from) and Krypta (brandy, gin, kiwi and lime served in an “olfactive chamber”).

What’s the best bar in Asia? Singapore’s Jigger & Pony ranks No. 5 worldwide thanks to its tasty drinks and mastery of classic drinks like the espresso martini, crafted with the bar’s own coffee blend, coffee flower honey and cacao tuile. Opt for the bar’s signature Singapore Sling or Singa Sling drinks, too.

The top 10 bars in 2024 are:

  1. Handshake Speakeasy, Mexico City, Mexico
  2. Bar Leone, Hong Kong
  3. Sips, Barcelona, Spain
  4. Tayēr + Elementary, London, England
  5. Jigger & Pony, Singapore
  6. Line, Athens, Greece
  7. Tres Monos, Buenos Aires, Argentina
  8. Alquímico, Cartagena, Colombia
  9. Zest, Seoul, South Korea
  10. Paradiso, Barcelona, Spain
