Airlines are taking an aggressive approach to disinfecting airplanes in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Delta Air Lines’ check-in kiosks, ticket counters, gate areas, jet bridges, off-site check-ins, Need Help Centers and Baggage Service Offices are being wiped down with disinfectant multiple times a day.
All Delta customer service areas are increasing cleaning schedules and making supplies readily available to agents for spot or more frequent cleaning. Delta is giving hand sanitizer to agents working at ticket counters, gates, Sky Zones, Need Help Centers and Baggage Service Offices.
Sky Club operations have been consolidated, shower service discontinued and food and beverage scaled back. In addition, the airline is also cleaning Sky Clubs throughout the day and sanitizing them each night using hospital-grade disinfectant confirmed to kill the COVID-19 virus.
Many Delta planes have state-of-the-art air circulation systems combining fresh outside air sterilized with a high-temperature compressor and ozone purifier, with existing cabin air recirculated through an industrial-grade HEPA filter.
United Airlines said most of its planes also have HEPA filters and circulation systems similar to those found in hospitals, which remove up to 99.7 percent of airborne particles.
The airline is also disinfecting common surfaces in terminals, providing hand sanitizer for employees in crew and break rooms, in lounges and at gates. For passengers requiring a wheelchair, the airline is wiping down all touch points, including push bar, brake handle, armrests, seat cushion and foot bar after every use. Each day, it sprays a sanitizing disinfectant on all surfaces.

May 5, 2025Costa Rica Lures with Modern Amenities, Rural Charm and a Simple Way of Life
When I first visited Costa Rica, I was ostensibly there for business. But after a few days in this tropical paradise, my trip started to feel more like a vacation than work. This isn’t to say I neglected my obligations, rather that my work meetings felt more pleasurable (and productive) than usual. The gorgeous jungle landscape combined with the pura vida lifestyle is a simply infectious combination, and it’s unsurprising the nation consistently ranks as the most popular tourist destination in Central America.
