A new boutique hotel in the Hudson Valley not only provides guests with a cozy environment, but also serves as a gathering place for various communities through the region. Located a 90-minute train ride from New York City, The Heartwood at Vassar sits in Poughkeepsie and features 50 guestrooms.

Within, guests can enjoy art from local artists, memorabilia through the decades from Vassar, and native flora and fauna through a custom art installation, among other unique décor elements. The entire hotel features art curated by The Loeb, Vassar’s on-campus art museum. Notable pieces include a hand-painted mural displaying a visual guide to the horticulture of the Hudson Valley by visual artist Julia Whitney Barnes. Looking ahead, The Vassar Institute, within the hotel, will be a new convening space for scholars, community members and thought leaders to come together for meaningful dialogue and lively debate. This space will launch in October.

Guestrooms are available in double queen, king and suites, with bathrooms equipped with stone and marble finishings, a rainfall shower, and a soaking tub. Deluxe suites feature separate living, dining and fully equipped kitchen spaces.

Additionally, The Heartwood at Vassar houses The Salt Line Hudson Valley, a seasonally inspired restaurant highlighting local farmers, purveyors and makers. Night Owls, meanwhile, is an intimate bar serving classic cocktails and bar snacks.

Amenities include a 24-hour gym, participation in Hotels for Trees (a program where, if guests skip linen service, The Heartwood plants a tree) and access to Arlington Farmers Market every Thursday afternoon (housed on property).

It anticipates a 10 percent increase over the next four years.
