The Londoner, located in the heart of London’s Leicester Square, sets a high standard, which I evidenced during my stay in its Capital Suite. The lobby evokes a jazz and urban vibe reminiscent of both the 1920s and 2020s, complemented by warm gray tones, plush seating, a stage for live music and piano evenings, and a bar where clinks of martini glasses and the general buzz of conversation transports you to a different world. Staff are immediately prepared to help with any need or want.

A teal door with an ornate handle opened to a dreamy and elegant space: The Capital Suite. White delicate curtains bathe the room in a soft, natural glow, highlighting a white and black marble table and neutral wood flooring and paneling. The signature scent of Miller and Harris continues into the suite from the hotel’s public spaces, and the scent awaits in both the master and guest bathrooms as lotion, soap and body wash. Think rose, patchouli, musk and bay leaf.

From the guest bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows showcase nearby Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye. A comfortable, burnt orange banquette at the table and a unique chandelier round out the living room space. In the back of the suite sits a fully stocked bar cart next to a plush couch. Here, my friend and I enjoyed cocktails while taking in views of the square below. The floor-to-ceiling windows are incorporated throughout the entire suite and push out to enjoy some fresh air and hear the sounds below.

Classical music welcomed me to the bedroom from a radio, and I stood in silence for a moment. The silence (save the music from the radio) also surprised me, for I stood just feet from loud Leicester Square below, and yet no noise filtered into the suite.

The sleek and modern décor continues into the bedroom and is found in everything from accent pillows on the bed to reading lights on both sides of it. I really loved the bar located below the television, as it was a great spot to put essentials for easy reach. In every room, you’ll find a light switch with different lighting options. An umbrella, soft robes and slippers are available in one of several closets.

The bathroom is one of the most beautiful of the space, covered top to bottom in blue-green tiles. In addition to a walk-in shower, the bathroom boasts two vanity sinks, a mirror with additional lighting, a separate tub and a bidet toilet with a seat warmer. Miller and Harris shampoo, conditioner and body wash are also provided in the shower and soaking tub. I promise you’ll want to be lathered in this stuff 24/7 after smelling it.

The beauty and danger of The Londoner is you’ll never want to actually leave the property to explore London. Downstairs lies Whitcomb’s, the hotel’s signature restaurant. For dinner, I dined on some of the best fish I have ever tasted and enjoyed amazing dishes thanks to the recommendations of staff.

I briefly ventured to The Londoner’s rooftop bar to see the city from a new height. This rooftop is especially lively in the evening, with a live DJ, flowing drinks and even a fireplace on cooler nights. I explored the hotel’s other amenities, including a spa and pool, underground avenue-like hall with a barber shop and nail salon, a lounge and a whisky bar. The whisky bar sees an entire wall entirely devoted to any and every rare and top-shelf whisky you can think of. This soundproof and intimately lit room has mirrors on the other three walls for a unique whisky-tasting experience.
