The Beverly Hills Hotel, part of the Dorchester Collection, recently opened an exhibit of rare Elizabeth Taylor photos taken by photographer Bert Stern. The complimentary exhibit, held in the hotel’s promenade level, runs through Sept. 30, and is open seven days a week.

Stern’s father was a children’s portrait photographer, which sparked his son’s connection to photography. Stern dropped out of high school during his senior year to serve in the Army, working as a photographer on a base in Japan. His wartime experience led him to a job in the mailroom at Look magazine, where he worked under his mentor Hershel Bramson, art director. Bramson later gave him his first job as a commercial photographer and he was soon sought after by magazines, advertisers, fashion designers and, eventually, celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor.

Taylor, meanwhile, enjoyed a special relationship with The Beverly Hills Hotel. Her father had a gallery in the hotel’s promenade and she frequented the hotel, known as the Pink Palace, throughout her life. She spent several honeymoons in the famed bungalows. She also regularly dined at the Polo Lounge, known for splurging on the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. After her passing, her family hosted a private gathering in her favorite Bungalow 5, recently renamed Elizabeth Taylor Bungalow 5.

Shannah Laumeister Stern, widower of Bert Stern and trustee of Bert Stern Trust, curated the exhibition, including 12 large images, featuring several never-been-seen photos documenting Taylor’s time filming Cleopatra and her love affair with Richard Burton. Burton and Taylor only allowed Stern to photograph them intimately.

All photos are available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting House of Taylor.

Remarkable Medellín

Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.

Upgrades to Premium Economy Dazzle Passengers Who Crave Comfort and Convenience

Passengers who don’t have the means or inclination to spring for a seat in the front of the plane but want more than the bare-bones experience found back in coach increasingly choose a third option, premium economy. This cabin can offer the best of both worlds: some of the amenities and comfort of first or business class with a more approachable ticket price. Airlines recognize this trend, launching or beefing up premium-economy seats to appeal to discerning yet budget- minded travelers. Here’s what’s new in this buzzy category.

Airlines Tout New Products and Services to Pamper Premium-Class Passengers

Is it worth it? The airplane is the same, we’re flying the same route, we will all get there at the same time. And yet some passengers paid considerably more for their seats than others. On an international flight, a business-class ticket can cost four times more than economy, and first class may be 10 times more. If you’re budget-conscious, it’s a no-brainer: Why break the bank for a journey that will only last a few hours? But for regular flyers, business travelers, celebrities and many others, the advantages of a premium ticket outweigh the cost.
