Tate Britain introduces the world to the romance and radicalism of the Rossetti family through a new exhibition, featuring more than 150 paintings, drawings, photography, designs, poetry and more. The exhibition follows Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Christina Rossetti and Elizabeth Rossetti, all of whom contributed to some of the most iconic 19th-century art pieces, illustrations and poems.
This exhibition also marks the first retrospective of Dante Gabriel Rossetti to ever be held at Tate and is the largest exhibition of his work in more than 20 years. In addition to displaying all three of his three Pre-Raphaelite oil paintings, the exhibition will also feature Elizabeth Rossetti’s rare surviving watercolors and drawings.
After extensive research into Elizabeth’s surviving watercolors, these specific works will be shown in a two-way dialogue with contemporary works by Dante Gabriel, exploring modern love in medieval settings.
The exhibition also examines the fascinating myths surrounding the unconventional relationships between Dante Gabriel, Elizabeth Rossetti, Fanny Cornforth and Jane Morris through works like Bocca Baciata, Beata Beatrix and The Beloved.
Christina Rossetti, sister to Dante Gabriel Rossetti, is also featured in the exhibition, in which an audio installation of her poetry is incorporated throughout the space, followed by examples of Dante Gabriel’s teenage drawings.
In addition to the art and poetry of the exhibition, visitors can also experience how the Rossettis began a new age of lifestyles, in which their work infiltrated the domestic interior through contemporary clothing, design and furniture.
Some of Dante Gabriel’s most iconic paintings include Lady Lilith (Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, Delaware), Proserpine (Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery, Birmingham, United Kingdom), The Blessed Damozel (Fogg Museum of Art, Harvard University, Massachusetts) and The Day Dream (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, United Kingdom).

Dec 18, 2024Stroll the Captivating Barrios of the Chilean Capital
Santiago is divided into comunas (districts) and then into barrios (neighborhoods). Founded in 1541 by Spain, Santiago suffered repeatedly from earthquakes, floods and civil disorder. It is no wonder its barrios are unique and distinct — some with steep terrain crawling up into the foothills of the Andes, some sitting close to the urban center and boasting busy cafés, music clubs, restaurants, food markets, and new residential and commercial high-rises.
