Dinner and Travel Talk
Earlier this week my husband and I spent a delightful evening with new friends, enjoying a few bottles of wine, dinner and travel talk. We met Marianne and Rich last summer when mutual friends from Portland came to town, and we invited both couples to our house for dinner. They had all attended Oregon State University together (and my husband, too, though a few years ahead of the others) and all had lived in the Portland area for the past 30-some years, so they had known each other for a long time. Just within the past year Rich and Marianne had moved here to Medford in Southern Oregon, and our mutual friends, Jim and Amber, hoped we'd hit it off and help ease their friends' transition to a new place.

An Insider’s Look at Mazatlan
In my previous blog about Mazatlán, the second port of call on our seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise aboard the brand-new Discovery Princess, I wrote about our morning shore excursion, tasting agave spirits and delectable ceviches. We intentionally chose a short, early excursion, as we made plans to meet up with friends of ours (and travel companions on cruises and a road trip in Spain and Portugal) who were spending a few months in Mexico, escaping the cold, snowy, winter weather of North Central Washington. Paul and Julie have done so the past few winters in their large, comfortable RV, and they were eager to show us the Mazatlán they've come to know as part-time residents of the area.
Deadline Scramble
This past Thursday was the deadline for Global Traveler's March issue. Deadline week always proves busy as the editorial team takes in and edits late-arriving text for articles and art director Tracey Cullen hustles to get final photo releases and finishes layouts. Editor in chief Kimberly Krol Inlander has to direct her keen eye to every page for approval before sending off the final proofs to the printer, all while finishing up her Letter from the Editor and other writing obligations she may have. No matter how well-prepared we are, there always seems to be some hiccup in the process that keeps us bustling right up to the end of that final day.

Travels with Daughters
Yesterday as I was scrolling through my pictures, planning on posting something on Facebook for National Daughters Day, I was reminded how many great trips we've taken with our daughters. And while I love the one-on-one time I share with my husband on our solo excursions, those family sojourns can't be beat for the fun and special memories they provide. Our trips started out modestly enough when the girls were small . . . mostly car trips to visit family or attend a wedding or special event. As they got older, our horizons literally expanded, and to this day (if not for this year) we continue to plan trips that now include them, their spouses and children.
