Something for Everyone at Sunriver
I spent the past week with my family at Sunriver, Oregon. This premier planned residential and resort community located in Central Oregon offers activities aplenty for visitors and residents, no matter the time of year. Sitting on the drier side of the Cascade Mountains at an elevation of 4,100 feet, it boasts 300 days of sunshine a year and offers warm, sunny weather in the summer; sparkling, crisp autumns; and dry, powdery snow in winter. This part of the state has always appealed to those who live west of the mountains, where winters can be long, wet and dreary.

ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME JOURNEY INTO THE ANCIENT WORLD OF THE PHARAOHS
A Special Dinner
This August my husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. The date fell during our vacation in Central Oregon, and we knew immediately where we wanted to dine on that special evening. Several years ago we attended my niece's wedding in the area, and a bunch of family members had dinner one evening together at Zydeco in Bend. The restaurant serves up hearty, Cajun-influenced American/Northwestern fare in a relaxed atmosphere in one of the old brick buildings in downtown. Our daughter and her husband had dined there earlier this year and confirmed that the food was just as good as we remembered, so Harry booked us a table as soon as we got into town.
A Great Place to Stay and Play
My husband and I have just returned from a 10-day vacation in Central Oregon. We stayed at Eagle Crest Resort, located just outside of Redmond and about 20 minutes from Bend. This part of the state is considered high desert, with less than 12 inches of precipitation annually and 300 days of sunshine. Don't let the term "desert" lead you to believe it's all sand and cactus, though. In fact, there are no cacti, but mixed forests of pine and juniper (some very old and fascinatingly gnarly) cover large areas, interspersed with sage and irrigated crop and grazing land.
