Six Senses Kyoto recently opened its doors, making it the first Six Senses property in Japan. Situated closely to iconic heritage shrines and palaces within the ancient capital, Six Senses Kyoto invites guests to escape and enjoy holistic wellness, signature sustainability and out-of-the-ordinary experiences.
The design draws inspiration from the Heian period, when Heian-kyo (now Kyoto) was the capital of Japan. The heritage is reflected in the hotel’s modern interpretation and incorporates elements of traditional arts to create a unique and elegant ambiance. The artwork in the lobby sets the tone with 504 handcrafted, Kyoto-made Rakuyaki tiles that symbolize the silhouette of the sacred Mount Kuramaa, one of the legendary settings of the Tale of Genji and the birthplace of Reiki healing.
Each of the 81 guestrooms and suites offer a sanctuary for contemplation. Specialty suites include the Premier Suite Garden with a private Japanese courtyard, and the Three Bedroom Penthouse Suite offering an extended place for reconnection. All bedrooms feature Sleep with Six Senses, which promotes a peaceful sleep with bespoke organic mattresses, temperature-regulating pillows, duvets and organic cotton sheets. Take it a step further and check out the hotel’s other sleep aids and programs such as personalized sleep consultations with sleep trackers, soothing treatments, nutritional guidance and low-intensity training.
Presented by Eat with Six Senses ethos, the hotel’s food and beverage offering takes guests on a journey through the ancient Japanese calendar. Sekki, the all-day restaurant, offers a seasonal weekly menu and drinks inspired by Japan’s 24 solar terms. Café Sekki features a selection of fresh brews, craft teas, homemade kombucha, healthy juices and guilt-free sweets and pastries using natural ingredients and traditional fermentation techniques.
