The desert seems to be the ideal place to construct a city of casinos, luxury hotels and all-you-can-eat buffets. The latest region with plans to build an entertainment-centric city, akin to Las Vegas in the United States, is Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
An area of 129 square miles has been designated for this project, with construction to begin in early 2018 and with the first phase to be completed by 2022. Not only will the city be stacked with casinos and luxury hotels, but it will also house a Six Flags theme park and a safari park.
The Middle Eastern nation has a far-reaching goal of developing other sources of revenue besides oil that they hope to achieve by 2030, a large part of which will depend on the country’s developing entertainment sector. The casino project will create thousands of jobs and help the kingdom establish a more diverse and sustainable economy.
