Ryanair will soon start its first round-trip Georgia flights. The flights, which start this November, will connect the capital Tbilisi (TBS) to Milan Bergamo (BGY) four times weekly and the western city of Kutaisi (KUT) to Bologna (BLQ) and Marseille (MRS), both twice weekly. Then, in April, Ryanair will add twice weekly flights between Tbilisi and Cologne (CGN).
The airline says it expects to see 170,000 customers annually on these flights.
“I have just signed the Agreement of Cooperation, which is the successful completion of intensive negotiations we have been holding with one of the largest low-cost airlines, Ryanair, for the past few months,” said George Chogovadze, CEO, United Airports of Georgia.
Ryanair COO David O’Brien commented, “We look forward to developing new Georgian traffic growth, new routes, and jobs in the coming years.”
Georgia’s tourism has grown in recent years, with 2019 expected to see 3.2 percent growth in visitor numbers over 2018. Ryanair completed its merger with Austrian carrier Laudamotion. It’s also in the process of rebranding its Polish arm as Buzz, and spinning off a new subsidiary called Malta Air.
