Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines scheduled a release of its new mobile app for late 2017, the features of which will be available to travelers who book one of the cruise line’s excursions. As of early this year, new information was released regarding the use and functionality of the mobile app as an onboard agent and customer service representative to aid cruisers in acclimating to life on a ship.
The Royal App is available for both iOS and Android devices, but a new, more innovative app is in the works for ship debuts throughout 2017, and piggybacks off of the success of the cruise line’s RFID-enabled wristwatches that have already been implemented on board. Royal Caribbean executives believe technology can only enhance the customer experience and help ease guests’ transitions. The wristwatches, called WOWbands, serve as key cards to guestrooms and eliminate the need to carry cards and wallets around the ship.
