During my recent stay at the Q&A Hotel in New York’s Financial District, I simply didn’t want to leave. In fact, I wanted to move in permanently.
Q&A Hotel is a residential property steps from Wall Street, where the rooms are three times the size of the average New York City guestroom and guests enjoy all the perks of home, including a full-sized kitchen with all the dishes and food prep items you could need, plus access to desirable amenities you simply don’t find at other hotels.
Located in a primarily residential building, Q&A Hotel occupies several of the lower floors. The entrance is on a quiet side street and guests walk through the residential entrance just as a permanent resident would, passing the hip coffee shop before taking a few extra turns to get to the tucked-away lobby. There, you can really start to see the Q&A style, with the space’s modern, sleek and gray-heavy aesthetic. After checking in, you go back into the residential area, and take special guest elevators to your floor.
The halls are quiet and accented by quirky artwork, reminiscent of the halls of a contemporary apartment building rather than a hotel. Of the more than 100 rooms available, there are six types of guestrooms — a studio, deluxe studio, executive studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom with office and two-bedroom. I enjoyed the lovely one-bedroom with office during my stay.
Walk inside this particular guestroom and you’re immediately in the office, which boasts a black accent wall and some visually interesting lighting, along with two chairs and the desk area. To your right is the first bathroom (look for the owl above the mirror, a Q&A signature touch). Walking further through the space, you reach the full kitchen with stainless steel appliances (full fridge, stove and oven and dishwasher) and everything you’d need to eat just as you do at home (including service for eight). A small round table provides seating near the kitchen, while a sectional and coffee table back up to a window on the far side of the room, facing a television. To the left of the living area is a spacious bedroom, with a huge walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom nearly identical to the first. Throughout, the large windows and high ceilings make the space look even larger than it already is, and ample storage is around every corner.
The amenities range from laundry services on the sixth floor to a full gym in the basement, with all the latest equipment, classes and spa services. Guests also enjoy access to a unique marketplace offering both groceries and ready-made gourmet food items. Additionally, a full-service lunch and dinner restaurant is in the works, slated to open by the end of the year. WiFi is complimentary, as are international calls.
While Q&A Hotel was originally built with business travelers in mind, it now hosts a mix of travelers lucky enough to uncover its perks, including families needing more space to spread out and millennials looking for a place to call home during a seasonal internship. However, with the average stay being five days, the hotel hardly sticks to only extended-stay guests.
To truly enjoy a home away from home during your next trip to New York, Q&A Hotel is a perfect choice.
