Hotel La Compañia, the first The Unbound Collection by Hyatt property in Central America, opened its American Wing, which completed the final phase of the hotel’s seven-year restoration. The American Wing includes four of the hotel’s food and beverage outlets and completes its role as a living museum, offering a look at the American period of the Panama Canal construction.

“The debut of the American Wing is an exciting time for our team,” said Fidel Reyes, general manager. “When we set out to create the hotel experience, the layout and architecture of the structure told us what we needed to do to bring that building to life. We worked hard to create a space that stayed true to the historical integrity of the building while providing a modern experience. We’re thrilled with how it has all come together with the Spanish and French Colonial Wings to tell an amazing story about Panama through art and design.”

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the construction of Hotel La Compañia paid homage to Panama’s past. The hotel’s main section dates to a 17th-century Jesuit convent, while the American Wing is the hotel’s youngest building, originally a high-end department store in 1904. The American Wing also houses 23 guestrooms.

Within the American Wing, American Bazaar, named after the original department store, is an authentic replica and serves North American selections. Find classic Italian at Luigi’s and enjoy views of the city at Capella, the rooftop bar. Hari’s, boasting furniture pieces from 1980s designer Harry Segil, delivers a Nikkei cuisine menu.

Costa Rica Lures with Modern Amenities, Rural Charm and a Simple Way of Life

When I first visited Costa Rica, I was ostensibly there for business. But after a few days in this tropical paradise, my trip started to feel more like a vacation than work. This isn’t to say I neglected my obligations, rather that my work meetings felt more pleasurable (and productive) than usual. The gorgeous jungle landscape combined with the pura vida lifestyle is a simply infectious combination, and it’s unsurprising the nation consistently ranks as the most popular tourist destination in Central America.
