New 2023 expeditions include:

Road to Atacama

Sept. 27–Oct. 9, Overland adventure across the world’s driest desert outside of the polar regions. As an unknown territory to most people, Argentina’s Atacama Plateau and Chile’s beauty of landscapes is truly humbling. The expedition takes guests across elevated plateaus of wildly striking and desolate landscapes filled with rare sites like salt flats, flamingos, ancient Incan trails, labyrinths, herds of llamas and turquoise lakes. Exploring this landscape requires serious effort but is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Road to Bolivia

Considered one of the most secluded and underrated regions in the world, landlocked Bolivia offers unique landscapes with a rocky, treeless desert; almost vertical valleys and canyons; an unsullied rainforest; and more. Oct. 12–23, travelers go beyond the unknown and drive through slopes of ice-capped Andean peaks, including the plains of the Altiplano, the most extensive high plateau on earth outside of Tibet. Whether tracing the world-renowned Dakar Rally route or driving across the world’s largest salt flats of Salar De Uyuni, this trip  pushes travelers out of their comfort zones.

Explore some of the most treacherous routes used during the Dakar Rally. The 12-day journey runs Oct. 26–Nov. 6.

Road to Namibia

One of the greatest overland adventures in the world, Namibia offers some of the most stunning landscapes in Africa. Dec. 6–20, explore the majestic sand dunes of the world’s oldest desert and meet the crashing rollers along the Atlantic coast with this distinct route featuring a mix of extreme climatic conditions, unforgettable sights and challenging off-road driving. Golf to Gastronomy to the Great Outdoors, Phoenix Rolls Out the Desert Carpet

You won’t need a sleeping potion here. The coyotes will howl you to sleep,” said the driver who picked me up at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to take me to my meeting at the historic Wigwam, a storied resort I last visited as a child. I’m excited to return to experience its characteristic adobe casitas and wander through its acres of lush Sonoran Desert landscape. Despite the driver’s warnings of menacing coyotes, I gaze in joy at the otherworldliness of the anthropomorphic saguaro cacti rising like humans waving their arms to the sky. They pepper the roadside and mottle the horizon all the way to purple- hued Camelback Mountain, a supreme hiking destination that gleams in the sun. Immense pinkish boulders, purportedly eons old, litter the expanses. They look like colossal petrified tennis balls left from a rigorous rally from long ago. Suddenly, a roadrunner speeds across the highway. “Whoa,” said the driver. “At least it wasn’t a Gila monster.”
