Voaara, a new barefoot luxury resort, is set to open next month in Madagascar. The resort features tropical-style bungalows and villas, and introduces a pioneering community-led resort concept to the region.
Located on Sainte-Marie Island, this resort is surrounded by water, wildlife and culture. The resort takes its name from two Malagasy words: Voarara, meaning forbidden or sacred; and Voara, meaning nature or fruit. Voaara offers a place of quiet for those seeking a relaxing retreat in unspoiled nature. This new approach to resort living invites guests to become part of a community.
Opening with just eight luxurious bungalows and one three-bedroom villa, this private paradise will group to be a 45-key property through a phased launch. Following the barefoot luxury resort design, all features are understated luxury, using rustic materials and neutral design.
Voaara’s goal is to attract creative and interesting travelers seeking new and exciting experiences. Speaking of exciting experiences, Sainte-Marie is known for being one of the best spots to view the humpback whale migration. The quiet bays and warm water make it the ideal setting for pods to raise their calves before migrating to colder waters. Guests staying at the resort between June and October will have the opportunity to witness this majestic moment.
The community-led resort also plans to fill the staff with at least 80 percent local residents. This will not only support the local community, but also ensure local tradition, culture and warmth is included throughout.
