When Airbräu opened in 1999, it was the only airport brewery in the world. The must-visit stop inside Munich Airport still holds the title, attracting beer aficionados and busy travelers alike. With one main 350-seat restaurant, with views of the brewing process, Airbräu’s additional spaces overlook Munich Airport Center and Terminal 2; there is also a demonstration kitchen and stage, and a spacious beer garden, open May–October. The beer garden is the perfect place to enjoy one of the unique brews, as the garden holds up to 600 travelers, all drinking and dining on traditional Bavarian cuisine in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere in the middle of Munich Airport Center, surrounded by lush greenery. For those without time to make it to the main Airbräu, a smaller outlet exists in Terminal 2, next to the fifth-level gates. Airbräu offers a rotating selection of nine different, award-winning types of beer, all created on site. Three are consistently available, and include a bitter lager, a mature wheat beer and a pils. Each pint is only €2.75. An additional five seasonal beers are available throughout the year, like the Christmas Krampus brew and the summer Mayday beer. The newest addition to the lineup is AirCraft, produced using locally grown hops and created according to German purity laws. Airbräu is open 8 a.m.–1 a.m. daily and invites travelers passing through Munich to experience true Bavarian culture, without ever leaving the airport!
