On view until Sept. 3 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, “Modern Times: American Art 1910–1950” features an impressive selection of works by Georgia O’Keeffe, Arthur Dove, John Marin, Arthur Beecher Carles, Henry Breckenridge and Marsden Hartley. The exhibition explores the influence of rapid technological and mechanical societal developments on how artists expressed life in America. More than 160 works are included, many from the museum’s own collections.
The exhibition coincides with a new publication by Jessica Todd Smith titled American Modernism: Highlights from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, published by the Philadelphia Museum of Art in association with Yale University Press. The 272-page publication includes 120 color and 10 black-and-white illustrations. The exhibition space is located on the first floor of the Dorrance Special Exhibition Galleries.
