Michelin Star-Studded Tokyo Shines Brighter Than Paris

Dec 13, 2013
Daily / Exclusive

With 15 dining establishments illuminated by three stars each, Tokyo outshines Paris, New York and London. It’s a dinner show of sorts at Ryugin, where Chef Seiji Yamamoto makes service a performance with a flourish of small courses and a modern Japanese twist. Don’t miss his signature dessert, the Minus-196 Degrees Candy Apple, with a filling of powdered ice cream.

It’s sleek wood and stunning sushi at Yoshitake, located centrally in Ginza, where an enormous wooden slab serves as the sushi bar. Also in Ginza, 7chome Kyoboshi serves deliciously delicate tempura from an inconspicuous sixth-floor location in the Ozio Ginza Building. And, for diners who struggle to make a final menu choice, there’s Quintessence. Specializing in French cuisine, Chef Shuzo Kishida makes it easy by offering one set menu daily for lunch and dinner, created from the freshest ingredients gathered during his daily market run. Seven-course lunches include dessert and a digestif, while dinner consists of 13 courses (also with dessert and a digestif). Bon appétit.

Explore the Beguiling Towns of Sicily’s Val di Noto

Best known to tourists for the boisterous chaos of Palermo, the views of Mount Etna from idyllic Taormina, and for that capricious volcano itself, Sicily has far more to draw travelers. In Sicily’s southeast corner, one region encapsulates the Sicilian spirit that has seen it through conquest and natural disasters, a region less well-known to tourists but one of the island’s most beautiful and fascinating.

Remarkable Medellín

Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
