Next year is set to be one for the books for museums across the world. From new openings to exhibition debuts, here’s what’s in store in the world of art, history and culture in 2025:

Goodwood Art Foundation, Goodwood Estate, Sussex, United Kingdom

Opening next May, this new site will serve as the United Kingdom’s newest destination for contemporary art. Goodwood Art Foundation will showcase the work of the best international artists and curators against an environment crafted by leading landscape designer Dan Pearson OBE. The new space will occupy The Pavilion Gallery, originally built in 2006 and set to be restored for the foundation’s opening.

Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Poland

This museum will fully open to the public in February, with the first comprehensive exhibition pulling from the museum’s collection of more than 1,000 works of Polish and international art from the late 20th and 21st centuries. Spanning 213,000 square feet, this new structure marks Thomas Phifer and Partners’ first building in Europe, boasting a 150-seat theater, conservation studios, performance auditorium, 48,911 square feet of long-term and temporary exhibition space, book shop and café, and education spaces.

Studio Museum in Harlem, New York

Next fall, Studio Museum in Harlem debuts in a new building, promoting the work of artists of African descent. The building, designed by Adjaye Associates, provides additional educational opportunities for all and expands the museum’s program of world-renowned exhibitions. The new museum will also more effectively display its singular collection. Upon opening, the museum inaugurates the building with a presentation of works by Tom Lloyd.

Fenix, Rotterdam, Netherlands

Fenix, slated to open May 16, focuses on the timeless and universal phenomenon of migration and the stories associated with it, paying homage to Rotterdam’s history and culture today. Fenix will sit on the banks of the River Maas in Rotterdam’s port district and develop an ever-expanding collection of historical objects, photography and art.

Jacob’s Pillow, Doris Duke Theatre, Becket, Massachusetts

A 220-acre National Historic Landmark, Jacob’s Pillow is home to America’s longest-running international dance festival. Next summer, the newly reimagined Doris Duke Theatre opens with flexible performance spaces, advanced technological capabilities, and a sustainable and accessible design.

Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut

Housing the largest collection of British art outside the United Kingdom, Yale Center for British Art reopens next March after a two-year closure for major conservation efforts to preserve the integrity of the building. The reopening will include a full reinstallation of its collection of British art, alongside solo exhibitions like J.M.W. Turner: Romance and Reality, and Tracey Emin: I loved You Until the Morning.

National Museum of Photography, Rotterdam, Netherlands

Rotterdam is the place to be for 2025. The nation’s center for the display, conservation, collection and study of photography moves to a newly renovated warehouse, set to open to the public in the second half of 2025. The building will serve as a new state-of-the-art home for the more than 6.5 million photographic images, one of the largest museum collections of photography in the world. The museum’s new home will also include extensive exhibition spaces, photography bookshop and library, café, darkroom, and a rooftop restaurant.

Stroll the Captivating Barrios of the Chilean Capital

Santiago is divided into comunas (districts) and then into barrios (neighborhoods). Founded in 1541 by Spain, Santiago suffered repeatedly from earthquakes, floods and civil disorder. It is no wonder its barrios are unique and distinct — some with steep terrain crawling up into the foothills of the Andes, some sitting close to the urban center and boasting busy cafés, music clubs, restaurants, food markets, and new residential and commercial high-rises.

Switzerland’s Lavaux Region Tempts Wine Lovers with Bottles They Can’t Get Back Home

Switzerland’s most famous exports — impeccably designed timepieces and luscious chocolate — are available around the world. Its wine, on the other hand, proves as elusive as an easy ascent up the Matterhorn. The Swiss understandably prefer to keep most of it for themselves, to sip après ski alongside bubbling fondue pots of melted Emmental. If you want to taste their homegrown beverage, imbued with crisp mountain air, intense sunlight and sparkling glacial waters, you might have to jump on a plane.
