A study by National Marine Manufacturers Association reports an impressive increase in interest in recreational boating and related industries — interest that’s grown steadily over the past six years. Thanks to warm weather and beautiful locations, destinations in the south are proving especially popular with travelers who enjoy making boating part of their adventures.

Visitors to Savannah, Georgia, can board one of two vintage, handcrafted wooden watercraft that make up the fleet of Kessler Charters. Choose the stunning 34-foot Decked Out Clarion, described as a “classic cocktail model boat” and fitted with luxury components including sumptuous leather seats and gleaming mahogany surfaces. There’s also the elegant 28-foot Kessler One. Fully restored, she sports an all-weather Navy top, four seats and a mahogany interior. More importantly, the boat — built in 1924 — retains her sparkling Roaring Twenties allure.

Passengers can relax while savoring the coastal views of Georgia’s Lowcountry on itineraries along the Intracoastal Waterway and Savannah River. Award-winning captains are at the helm during the Sunset Cruise or Daytime Dolphin Cruise, with cocktails and nibbles served on board. Book the Island Tour and cruise to Daufuskie Island for a gourmet picnic lunch on the island’s shore.

Explore City and Shore on Canada’s Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island lies off Canada’s east coast; and although connected to neighboring Nova Scotia by a bridge since 1997, it retains the remote feel of an island. Its capital of Charlottetown is a popular stop for Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Silversea, Seabourn and other cruise lines that bring passengers right into the heart of the small city.

The Somerset on Grace Bay Review

If you’re taking a large family getaway or a “friendcation,” regular hotel rooms might not cut it. But if your brood happens to be planning a beach getaway to Turks & Caicos, The Somerset on Grace Bay can provide an inviting oceanside home away from home.
