Lufthansa plans to expand rapid COVID-19 testing for passengers, offering faster testing options, initially as a “premium service.”
Lufthansa Group senior director of product management and ground and digital services Bjoern Becker announced Lufthansa will introduce antigen testing for coronavirus in airports by October. Antigen testing, also considered rapid testing, can be determined outside of a lab, providing results within 15 minutes.
Antigen tests will be limited at first, only available to premium customers.
“People who really need to fly often, once or twice a month, will need to have the fast test,” said Becker. “If I go on holiday, it’s not that tough for me if I need to wait six hours for results just once in a year.”
While faster than other COVID-19 tests, antigen tests also possess a higher probability of missing active infections, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Suddenly, a roadrunner speeds across the highway. “Whoa,” said the driver. “At least it wasn’t a Gila monster.”
