The scenic landscape of inland Maine is the setting for the new Lockwood Hotel in downtown Waterville. The city’s first new boutique hotel to open in more than 100 years, the property offers guests a traditional New England experience, just in time for fall leaf peeping.
“Lockwood Hotel is a testament to everything Waterville and central Maine have to offer, and we are eager to introduce the city to a new audience of discerning travelers,” said Jordan Rowan, general manager, Lockwood Hotel. “Waterville’s central location makes Lockwood Hotel the ideal gateway for experiencing the best of Maine—from the nearby hiking trails and renowned Colby College Museum of Art to Acadia National Park, Sugarloaf Ski Area, the mid-coast and Portland.”
Contemporary architecture and an art-driven aesthetic define the new hotel and its 53 guest spaces, featuring a collection of work curated by Colby College Museum of Art. This includes pieces by Bernard Langlais, Wabanaki basket weavings by Jeremy Frey and Maine landscape photography by Tanja Hollander. The hotel façade was created from limestone to blend with the city’s limestone civic buildings in the downtown core, including its historic post office. Most of the materials used in the construction of the LEED Silver Certified hotel originate in Maine.
The property’s Front & Maine restaurant, under the direction of New England native, Executive Chef Jesse Souza, offers the best of local ingredients from Maine’s farms and coast. The commitment to local extends to cheese from Skowhegan’s Crooked Face Creamery, freshly milled organic and heritage grains from Maine Grains, fish and seafood from Harbor Fish and produce from 3 Level Farm. Menu specialties include scallop crudo, lobster bucatini and a traditional Acadian dish called ployes, a delicious cross between a buckwheat pancake and a flatbread.
Guests can enjoy Maine’s outdoor activities, which include cycling, hiking and fly fishing alongthe Kennebec River across from the hotel. Nearby wilderness areas include Belgrade Lakes and Acadia National Park. Lockwood Hotel’s location also allows for easy access to Bar Harbor, Camden and Portland. Future plans include participation in the Basecamp Lending Program to loan adventure gear such as backpacks to guests.

And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
