On Dec. 18, the largest collection of mummies in the world — the Mummies of the World exhibit — will return to The Leonardo. Already a success with the exhibition’s prior 1.4 million visitors, the December debut will include new mummies, artifacts and more that have been added to the collection from South America, Europe and Egypt.

“The first engagement of Mummies of the World was one of the most successful exhibitions The Leonardo has ever displayed, and we are thrilled to bring its sequel back to Salt Lake City. We especially appreciate how Mummies of the World allows us to make connections between ourselves and the entire human family,” says Alexandra Hesse, executive director, The Leonardo.

The new additions focus on the role mummies play in science and medicine and features the famous 19^th-century Burns Collection of medical mummies, which were previously used for anatomical, pathological and surgical education. A more modern artifact on display for the first time is MUMAB, a modern-day mummy created in 1994 in the same techniques used by the ancient Egyptians.

The exhibit will be on display starting Dec. 18 and remain at The Leonardo through March 6, 2016.
