Langham Hospitality Group opened a new hotel under its upscale Cordis Hotels & Resorts brand, situated in the southern Chinese city of Foshan, a key urban center in the country’s Greater Bay Area. The Cordis, Foshan and Lingnan Tiandi Hotel is becoming a promising destination for both tourists and business travelers thanks to its planned upgrades and prime location in Lingnan Tiandi.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area refers to this city cluster in the Pearl River Delta of South China, a cultural and commercial hub nestled in Foshan’s centrally located Chancheng district.
The Cordis Foshan and Lingnan Tiandi Hotel is surrounded by a unique and interesting environment including everything from historic temples to trendy shops and glitzy office complexes, creating an eclectic neighborhood where ancient meets new in a scenic environment.
“Our Cordis hotel brands are always located in the hearts of their neighborhoods, which they fully embrace through local tours, art installations and community engagements,” said Bob van den Oord, CEO, Langham Hospitality Group. “The Lingnan Tiandi zone of Foshan’s Chancheng district is precisely the type of area where a Cordis hotel can thrive while also contributing to its local environment.”
Cordis Foshan consists of 390 rooms and suites, all spacious with private balconies. The property also includes one- and two-bedroom serviced apartments. In terms of amenities, there is a 92-foot indoor pool on site, together with a Jacuzzi and sauna facilities; a fitness center; and a spectacular two-story club lounge with culinary offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Additional food and beverage venues include the hotel’s two restaurants, the Cantonese-style Lingnan Garden and a barbecue dinner buffet-style bistro called The Deck.
The hotel houses a 13,500-square-foot ballroom and eight multifunction meeting rooms. It also features a large ceremonial hall used for social functions like weddings and other celebrations.
Developed by Shui On Land, the Lingnan Tiandi district is home to numerous, meticulously restored ancient structures. This includes the 900-year-old Song Dynasty Ancestral Temple, which regularly hosts Chinese opera performances, an acknowledgement to Foshan’s reputation as the birthplace of the operatic art form.
The area also includes a collection of revitalized Cantonese mansions and other iconic village buildings, several of which have been converted into restaurants paying homage to the region’s classic cuisine.
As for shopping options, Lingnan Tiandi is well-known for its busy street market and ultra-modern malls attracting both local residents as well as visitors from distant towns. The area offers many types of transportation options for the regional population. These include being a 10-minute walk from Zumiao subway station and a one-hour, high-speed rail journey from every major city within GBA. For international visitors, Lingnan Tiandi is just 55 minutes by car from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
