KLM Royal Dutch Airlines recently announced plans to expand its trans-Atlantic network with direct service from Portland (PDX), Oregon, to Amsterdam (AMS). Marking KLM’s 21st direct destination in North America, service begins Oct. 27, and take off three times weekly in winter and five times per week in summer.
These flights replace Delta Air Lines’ service on this route; Delta has flown between Amsterdam and Portland for 15 years and is a partner in the trans-Atlantic joint venture with KLM. Portland has strong tourism as a year-round destination offering natural beauty like Mt. Hood, Columbia River Gorge and Forest Park, alongside a strong culinary scene and business presence.
When service starts in October, KLM will depart Portland Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, before moving to Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in summer. Flights will depart on Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 30 World Business Class, 21 Premium Comfort Class and 224 economy class seats.
Winter flights leave PDX at 1:25 p.m. local time and arrive the next day at 7:50 a.m. in Amsterdam, then departing AMS at 10:25 a.m. before arriving in Portland at 11:25 a.m. The schedule timing will adjust slightly come summer.

Sep 6, 2024Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise
The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.
