One of my pet projects comes to fruition in this issue with the debut of Web jumps, online content written to complement the already-comprehensive information presented in our destination features. As you peruse the January issue, keep an eye out for the jump icon leading to related content on our website, globaltravelerusa.com.
As an editor, I’m sometimes forced to make the painful decision to cut text from the awesome reports our intrepid team of contributors sends based on their travels around the world. Sometimes, it’s a matter of space. Other times, a paragraph or two of fun reading might be just a touch outside the main focus of our scheduled article. Our new Web jumps ensure you always get the full story, including an occasional entertaining anecdote about a writer’s experience on the road.
Speaking of road trips, our new destination line-up includes home-grown articles about U.S. cities. First up is Stateside: Austin by Allison Voigts. Also in this issue, Ron Bernthal offers tips for entertaining clients in Santiago, and Hilary Nangle takes us on an Arctic adventure. Barbara Rogers guides us on a day trip around Lisbon, while Dale Leatherman explores Cairo. Patrick Adams searches for family fun in Kiev and Richard Newton kicks back on the islands of Malaysia. And be sure to check out Diana Rowe’s comprehensive feature on hotel loyalty programs, and don’t miss “Fifty Shades of Green” by Debra Bokur, a revealing look at the facts — and fiction — surrounding the travel industry’s claims of eco-friendly practices.
