We flew the inaugural JetBlue flight on the new Boston (BOS)–Atlanta (ATL) service, leaving Boston at 6:10 a.m. As it was before the T or hotel shuttles were operating, we were surprised to find Terminal C so busy. Check-in was fast with JetBlue agents stationed to help with printing boarding passes and luggage tags. Our Blue Plus tickets — comparable to premium economy — allowed us a checked bag in addition to our carry-on.

We pre-boarded and as we were in the first row, the flight attendant stowed our carry-ons in the overhead bin. Blue Plus seats have plenty of legroom. On the return trip we were in the second row, so we had a chance to sample those seats as well, and there was plenty of under-seat space for a good-sized backpack. Seats are wide enough for a little wiggle room. While other passengers boarded, we were entertained by a series of cute how-to videos on everything from frosting a cake to evenly hanging pictures.

Departure was on time and as soon as we reached cruising altitude we were offered coffee, including brewed decaf, green or black tea and juices, along with a variety of snacks including cookies, vegetable chips, pretzels and others. We were welcome to choose multiple complimentary snacks, and “Eat Up” boxes were available for purchase at $7 each, with options for kosher, vegan and gluten-free meals. More substantial salads and sandwiches were priced $9–12.

In-flight entertainment included the expected range of music and movies, with easy-to-use controls in the armrest, and WiFi was free. Because it was an inaugural flight, prizes were awarded, ranging from gift certificates for attractions and restaurants in Atlanta to free tickets on JetBlue routes.

We arrived on time, greeted by balloons and TV cameras. Clearly the arrival of a low-cost airline in Atlanta was welcome.
