Earlier this month, Icelandair received delivery of its first Airbus aircraft in its 87-year history. The new Airbus A321LR is the latest addition to Icelandair’s fleet and marks the first of three A321LRs scheduled for delivery by next summer.

These three will replace the airline’s current Boeing 757 aircraft. Icelandair will transition to the A321LR because the aircraft offers up to 30 percent better fuel efficiency, advancing the airline’s sustainability goals with reduced carbon dioxide emissions and reduced noise. Additionally, this new aircraft has a run of up to 4,000 nautical miles, covering Icelandair’s global network with greater ease.

A321LR aircraft features advanced gate-to-gate WiFi connectivity, 60 percent more stowage space in overhead bins, next-generation in-flight entertainment from Panasonic and a lighting system enhancing passengers’ wellbeing. The aircraft also increases flight capacity with 187 seats (22 in Saga Premium).

Icelandair isn’t the only airline receiving new Airbus aircraft. On Dec. 19, Aer Lingus took delivery of its first of six A321XLR aircraft, making it the second airline in the world to operate this aircraft, which will allow Aer Lingus to operate new routes beyond the U.S. East Coast and Canada, expanding to Nashville (BNA) and Indianapolis (IND).
