Perfectly positioned in the historic center of Old Town Alexandria, the newly opened Hotel Heron is ready to welcome guests in search of boutique luxury and eclectic fine dining. The hotel is housed in a space once occupied by George Mason Hotel, opened in 1926.

This latest incarnation celebrates that legacy with architectural details carefully incorporated by Washington, D.C.-based architects Antonovich Associates, Streetsense’s global interior design team.

“Alexandria is already a thriving city, and we aim to enhance that vibrancy,” said Harry Francis, director of lifestyle, Hotel Heron. “Our goal is for Hotel Heron to become a beloved gathering place for locals — whether they’re celebrating, looking to relax, or meeting strangers who become friends.”

Within the Colonial Revival architecture structure, guests will find stairs leading from the lobby to the library, where bespoke tapestries adorn walls lined with custom-crafted bookshelves. Guestrooms feature fluted glass paneling, velvet headboards, Federal-style mirrors and luxurious bathrooms fitted with Grown Alchemist bath amenities.

Fun opening offerings include Find Your Flock, with two complimentary handcrafted cocktails served at the hotel’s rooftop bar, where views of the waterfront provide a poignant sense of place; and Love, Alexandria, with reduced rates in premium rooms, complimentary parking, passes to some of the city’s preeminent museums and complimentary water taxi tickets to cruise upon the Potomac River.

Enjoy cocktails at Francis Hall or Good Fortune rooftop bar. For dining, KILN serves up breakfast and dinner with a focus on fresh and regional dishes such as Olde Salt oysters and Atlantic spotted seatrout. Watch your meal being prepared from the vantage point of the Chef’s Counter.

“Guests will be delighted by how our beverage menus pay tribute to Alexandria and the greater DC area, celebrating everything from local peach brandy and gin to farm-fresh herbs for garnishes,” said Betty Woodward, director of food and beverage, Hotel Heron. “We’ve crafted an approachable and sophisticated selection, inviting every kind of drinker to find their favorite.”

Once an isolated outpost, the Dominican Republic now sits at a global crossroads, easily accessible from North and South America and from Europe. Due to its strategic geographical location in the heart of the Caribbean — occupying two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, with Haiti taking up the westernmost third — it serves as a vital hub for trade and commerce with the rest of the world.

The Shelbourne Review

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
