Head to the Adirondacks this winter for festive holiday fun. Located in northeastern New York, the Adirondack Mountains are known as a premier winter sports destination. Take part in hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, ice skating and ice fishing.

Head to Lake Placid, host to the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Channel your inner Olympic bobsledder at the Cliffside Mountain Coaster, the longest year-round mountain coaster in the country. Soar above Lake Placid on the Sky Flyer Zipline. If you prefer an enclosed option, try the SkyRide Experience. The eight-person gondola brings guests from the Olympic Jumping Complex’s base lodge up to the ski jump towers, a new glass-enclosed elevator ride to the ski jumps with views of the Adirondack High Peaks. Get in the holiday mood at the Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll, running Dec. 11–13.

There are numerous lodging options for every preference. Mirror Lake Inn and Whiteface Lodge are perennial favorites. New additions for 2020 include The Lake Placid Inn and Saranac Waterfront Lodge, opened in July and November, respectively. High Peaks Resort has three unique lodging options: The Resort (105 guestrooms and suites, newly renovated in March 2020), Lake House (44 guestrooms) and Waterfront Collection (28 guestrooms, including 10 suites).

This isn’t to say I neglected my obligations, rather that my work meetings felt more pleasurable (and productive) than usual. The gorgeous jungle landscape combined with the pura vida lifestyle is a simply infectious combination, and it’s unsurprising the nation consistently ranks as the most popular tourist destination in Central America.
