Many travelers, businesses and industries remain uncertain about the impact of the temporary travel ban put in place by President Donald Trump on Jan. 27. We asked the Global Traveler audience about its thoughts and experiences concerning the temporary travel ban, particularly in regard to business travel.
The executive order to keep refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim nations out for 90 days was put on hold after a unanimous decision by the federal courts on Feb. 9. Confusion followed in the days after the ban was initially ordered, especially within the travel industry, while officials determined how the order would be implemented or enforced. The ban prevented green card holders and those with valid visas from entering the country, in addition to illegal immigrants.
It is unclear what the next move will be, but in the meantime, the United States and other nations involved attempt to determine the impact the ban has had and to predict the potential effects if the ban is reinstated.
Our readers’ opinions are important to us, so we asked them about how the travel ban impacted and may impact them personally, their travel experiences and their businesses. Our results represent feedback from 431 respondents.
In response to a question about whether or not our readers think the travel ban will affect business travel in the future, nearly 30 percent responded they do not think it will have an impact, while 26.8 percent replied neutrally, indicating the impact of the travel ban is yet to be determined; 28 percent of those surveyed think the travel ban will affect their business travel.
Three-quarters, or 75 percent, of those surveyed claimed the ban will not affect the way they travel, though 73.5 percent of respondents had not traveled since the ban went into effect.
We asked readers to share some information about their travel experiences before the ban was put in place — 60.7 percent reported they did not experience any adverse effects while traveling prior to the ban, while 30 percent responded neutrally, and a little more than 9 percent reported noticing adverse effects while traveling prior to the ban.
Finally, we asked readers: Since the travel ban, have you experienced any adverse effects? Only 10 percent reported they have noticed adverse effects, while 36.2 percent answered neutrally and 35 percent reported they have not personally experienced any adverse effects.
The future of the ban and its impact on business travel is uncertain, as President Trump’s administration, according to a Tweet by Donald Trump, plans to pursue the reinstatement of the ban.
Did you notice any adverse impact on your business while the ban was in place? Do you foresee adverse impacts if the ban is reinstated? Email us and let us know. Please include your full name and location with your email.
