Based in Stuttgart, contemporary artist Laurenz Theinert moves photography into an ethereal dimension using a blend of light and his own imaginative intuition. Through Sept. 15, visitors to Museum Ritter in Waldenbuch, Germany, can immerse themselves in Theinert’s world of visual language as expressed through light and sound performances, light art, installations and photographic works.
Among the works on view is Randerscheinungen (Peripheral Phenomena), in which the artist explores the edges of the photographer’s view, rather than a central object or scene. In the series Farbreste (Leftover Colours), Theinert utilizes digital imaging to reveal the subtle colors that may be discerned in greyscale settings such as concrete or cement walls. The results are mesmerizing color compositions that lend themselves toward the psychedelic.
In several of the installations included in this new exhibition, Theinert plays and experiments with how different light effects and shadows result in new spatial experiences. Farblichtaum (Coloured Light Room) is a walk-in space where colors undulate and change in a way meant to suggest movement. Both Awakening and Gespinst (Weave) transform depending upon the rhythm of light played out upon their surfaces; the same viewer experience is part of the multipart series Every Now and Then and Tagundnachtgleiche [Equinox].
Founded by RITTER SPORT company co-owner Marli Hoppe-Ritter, Museum Ritter is a private institution largely dedicated to geometrical abstract art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection includes close to 1,200 creations built around the concept of the square as a form, and ranges from objects and sculptures to paintings and graphic works. Concurrent with the Theinert exhibit is Hommage à la France, with works by Auguste Herbin, Victor Vasarely, Leo Breuer, Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV) and others. The museum is located at 27 Alfred-Ritter-Strasse, and is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday–Sunday.
The town of Waldenbuch is about 10 miles south of Stuttgart.

Nov 27, 2024Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel Review
There are a few words that come to mind when the subject of airport hotels comes up. Usually, fun, cute and lively aren’t on that list. When general manager Evgeny Vreijling or his team members welcome guests, they insist Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is not an airport hotel but a hotel that happens to be near the airport. He also emphasizes that, while Amsterdam is regarded as the gateway to Europe, the hotel was designed to be a gateway to the rest of the Netherlands.
