With summer at the midway mark and fall fast approaching, there are great events taking place in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and The Beaches, all part of Florida’s Historic Coast.

Art is around every corner and in every form on Florida’s Historic Coast. Lightner Museum in St. Augustine hosts The Gilded Age: Treasures from the Lightner Museum, a major reinterpretation of the museum’s permanent collection, available through winter. St. Augustine Art Association offers History Through the Lens of Architecture through Aug. 25.

For live performances on Florida’s Historic Coast, check out Limelight Theatre’s summer shows, including the popular 9 to 5 The Musical, through Aug. 11. St. Augustine Amphitheatre offers shows from T-Pain, Iration and Pepper, Switchfoot, UB40, and more through Oct. 26. For more free entertainment, visit St. Augustine Pier every Wednesday for Music By the Sea Concert Series, with the Boardwalk Bazaar on the last Friday of the month at Marina Munch; the Fourth Friday Improv Show at Third Space Improv on the fourth Friday of the month; and the Uptown St. Augustine Block Party on the last Thursday of the month, through September.

Spectators leave it to the pros at the Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament, Aug. 17–18 at Vilano Beach. The competition features athletes from more than 75 different beaches worldwide.

The oceanside community of Vilano Beach is home to the new Hyatt Place Vilano Beach. The property has a nice look, with classic Florida Vernacular architecture with Art Deco complements. The property offers 120 rooms, a second-floor swimming pool, and 7,200 square feet of meeting and event space, just steps from Vilano beach. On-site Pesca Vilano features coastal cuisine with Latin flavors, with indoor fine dining on the main floor, while the rooftop offers a curated menu and crafted cocktails with great views of St. Augustine and the Atlantic Ocean.

Guests at The Casa Monica Resort & Spa enjoy Cordova, a Coastal Chophouse & Bar, with 145 indoor seats, a lounge and intimate wine room. The menu is inspired by the cuisine of Spain and Morocco.

Saint Augustine’s Dining at the Plaza celebrated the successful launch of its evening offering, Bourbon & Boards, open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. They serve a selection of more than137 bottles of bourbon, 900 bottles of wine, hand-crafted cocktails, late-night bar-coterie boards and specially made tapas. Live jazz music helps create an intimate, speakeasy atmosphere.

In Uptown St. Augustine Chez L’Amour offers tapas-style small plates, plant-based upscale cuisine, decadent desserts and a full bar, complemented by live jazz and piano music.

Chef Barry Honan’s Lotus Noodle Bar opened in September 2023 with a menu described as modern Japanese with French technique. Each dish is a delightful surprise of flavors, textures and visual composition. A selection of Saké, Japanese beer and wine are available. Because of limited seating, reservations are necessary.

Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise

The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

The Shelbourne Review

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
