The first U.S. property to join the Treehouse Hotels brand is scheduled for a late 2023 opening in Sunnyvale, California. Part of SH Hotels & Resorts portfolio — the sustainable brand management company created by Starwood Capital Group chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht — Treehouse collection aims to reconnect guests with a less-stressed, more carefree state of mind, while offering modern comfort and amenities. The Sunnyvale location within Silicon Valley follows two U.K. properties in London and Manchester.
“Sunnyvale is the epicenter of the bold ideas, disruptive technology, imagination and innovation that make Silicon Valley an icon and inspiration for the world,” said Sternlicht. “Every inch of this playful property, from mismatched materials to secret nooks and unexpected artwork, creatively combines the energy and intensity of Silicon Valley’s high-tech culture with the simpler, older, more natural charms of the Santa Clara Valley’s pre-Internet era.”
Efforts to reduce environmental impact and waste include repurposing existing buildings and adding a new six-story modular structure created off site. Private outdoor spaces in the 254 rooms and suites include balconies, ground-floor patios and terraces on upper floors. Indoors, playfulness is the theme, with furnishings like sofas tucked into wooden bookcases, wood ceiling beams and pops of color in pillows and unique quilts.
Some of the trees removed during the property’s construction have been transformed by local artists into nature-themed sculptures. Cozy, unexpected spaces, hammocks and surprise lookouts combine to enhance an atmosphere of wonder and innocence. There’s also a garden for guests to enjoy games or settle in at the beer garden.
There’s also a pizza oven, courtyard pool rimmed with cabanas, hot tub and fitness center. Meeting and event spaces feature a rustic barn vibe and a pre-function space flowing out onto the lawn.

Mar 12, 2025Recharge with a Hollywood-Ready Spa Day at L’Ermitage Beverly Hills
While cooler and milder weather in Los Angeles means a pleasanter travel experience (particularly for a Floridian accustomed to humid summer heat), the drier weather also often means lingering and visual effects on the skin, something I began to feel the moment I stepped off my plane in the City of Angels. Low humidity and winter weather might be great for my hair, but my skin was tired and dry and eager for some much- needed nourishment and hydration.
