Slated for a 2025 unveiling, Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal just reached a major milestone, with more than 70 percent of construction now complete. The new terminal will transform the airport into what many are calling the “airport of the future.”

The new terminal will include four terraces, bringing the outdoors inside for an elevated travel experience. Two terraces will be located before security and two after. Artistic touches will also grace the space, from tree-like columns to leaf motifs in the floor, all created by artist Clayton Merrell to honor Western Pennsylvania’s lush foliage.

Travelers can also gaze up at 4,000 constellation lights on the ceiling, delivering a mesmerizing night sky effect.

The new terminal also weaves modern technology into the new concept, such as faster and more efficient security checkpoints and baggage claim.

“We realized we had a real opportunity to modernize our infrastructure, and to really have it reflect and serve the community through the design,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO, Pittsburgh International Airport. “We wanted to make sure that what was being built was an airport for Pittsburgh; it was going to reflect this region, and it was going to feel like it reflected the community. We wanted to make sure that we could partner with architects that would really understand the community and reflect that through design.”

Earlier this year, the airport announced 15 new stores, including new restaurants and retail shops.

Immerse in an Invigorating Thermal Journey at Scandinave Spa Whistler

The glittering green pines and burst of jasmine lake beyond almost made me forget about the aches in my legs that slowly developed after the promised hour-long hike ran into the third hour. And, oh, there were my hips, showing up to remind me I was no longer in my 20s. I didn’t mind, though, because the vision that surrounded me during our guided walk through Garibaldi Park to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, British Columbia, with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures proved worthy of a thousand postcards.
