Art inspires a lot of things in life — and, as it turns out, that includes cocktails. At Arts Bar at St. Regis Venice, art is a multisensory experience that includes tasting delicious libations, viewing the gorgeous setting and feeling the touch of elegant Murano glassware against your lips.
“A glass is an intimate object, bridging the cocktail and our experience of it,” said Mariapia Bellis, designer, Berengo Studio. “The design process considers ergonomics, the hands that will hold it, and the mouth that will touch it, as well as the materiality and colors of the glass to enhance the liquid within. Our collaborative journey was both lengthy and rewarding, driven by a desire to create original vessels that elevate equally extraordinary cocktails.”
A menu of 12 new drinks created in collaboration with Facundo Gallegos, food and beverage director, and Ludwig Negri, head of bars, Bellis, is aptly titled Worldwide Icons of Art.
Among the artists influencing the artsy menu are Munch, Recuenco, Mondrian, Scarpa, Banksy, Monet, Dali and Ai Weiwei.
Picasso lovers can sample the Canvas Temptation, served in a ruby-red glass and concocted from grape distillate, fig-tonka cordial, chili pepper and spirulina algae. Edvard Munch’s The Scream was the inspiration for Through the Trees, featuring Norwegian Aquavit and roasted barley syrup, and finished with smoky hop soda and a twist of absinthe. Paying homage to Wurm is Still Waiting, crafted from Grey Goose vodka, Crème de cacao, Abricot de Roussillon, homemade vanilla syrup and verjus, topped with a breathtaking orange cloud garnish.
“Through our partnership with Berengo Studio, we aim to preserve the Venetian tradition of glassmaking, as well as to stay true to the St. Regis brand’s vocation of continuing to push the boundaries in terms of artistic innovation,” said Audrey Huttert, general manager, The St. Regis Venice. “The Arts Bar becomes the scene of an intimate and refined experience, where we experience, literally, cocktails in their glasses, designed uniquely for us, inspired by the artistic and cultural heritage of the city, but not only.”
The menu also includes two non-alcoholic cocktails: Britannia 1201 gives a nod to Claude Monet, a former hotel guest back when the property was Grand Hotel Britannia. Made with Tanqueray 0.0, house-made non-alcoholic vermouth, and non-alcoholic bitters, it’s garnished with a spray of Tanqueray TEN. Spirit Illusions pays tribute to Karen La Monte’s sculpture Reclining Nocturne, a blend of non-alcoholic sparkling wine with Kuka Kura Bitter, American Amharic, and London Essence Peach & Jasmine soda. Guests can also view La Monte’s glass sculpture at the property. The Arts Bar is open Wednesday–Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Visit the bar website for a full list of new and classic drinks, along with specially themed art cocktails.

After enduring more than 20 hours on multiple flights and at airport gates waiting for delayed connections, my skin showed the ravaging signs of spending far too much time enveloped by recycled air. By the time I landed in Macao I looked like I had aged 10 years, my skin dull and dried out, while my sleep-deprived eyes drooped under the weight of heavy bags.
