Explore the Land Down Under with the latest offering from Extraordinary Journeys: Vibrant Neighborhoods, Culture and Wildlife of Sydney and Southern Australia. Highlights of the tour include four nights at Pier One in Sydney, including a lunchtime cruise on Sydney Harbour; art and food walking tours through The Cannery, Barangaroo and Tramsheds; a tour with an Aboriginal Guide; climb along the Harbour Bridge; and a dinner and private tour at the Sydney Opera House. Participants can also go full adventure with a surfing lesson on Bondi or Manly Beach.

Two nights at the Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island include time to explore local sites such as Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and a colony of fur seals. Next, guests will enjoy a private ride in a classic 1962 Daimler with wine guide John Baldwin while touring the Barossa wine valley. Lodging for two nights is at The Lousie, with private tastings of Barossa wines at Roennfeldt Road cellar and Seppeltsfield.

The next two nights are spent at Arkaba Station, an 1850s homestead in the Flinders Ranges. Entertainment includes an African-style safari game viewing in the Outback, nature hikes, expeditions to ancient rock drawings and nighttime stargazing. There’s also a half-hour excursion to view the area from a small plane.

Finally, the trip brings participants to the Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide for an overnight stay, with plenty of time to tour the city, shop at Adelaide Central Market, board a tram ride to the beach and learn about the region’s past at the Aboriginal Culture Centre.

A World of Wellness

According to Merriam-Webster, wellness, a noun, is defined as “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal.” As the definition states and as the travel industry knows, wellness reaches far beyond just simply being not sick; for some, the idea of wellness is an entire lifestyle. Wellness is sought daily, at home and, for many, while traveling. The meaning of the word can also shape-shift depending on the person. Maybe for you it’s morning meditation every day, while for your neighbor it’s splurging on a luxury spa day while on a beach vacation.

Good to Go

As usual, we have a lot going on at Global Traveler. We are about to start our efforts with the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center Roundup Gala, to be held Oct. 24 in Philadelphia. The organization asked me to serve as cochair with John Kelley, a member of the Advisory Board of FXExpress Publications, Inc. Last year’s event surpassed that of 2023, so we have big shoes to fill for 2025.
