Delta Air Lines will launch two international long-haul routes using its new Airbus A350 aircraft. The routes will fly from Delta’s hub at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to Shanghai (PVG) and Amsterdam (AMS).
The move brings Delta’s total number of international routes flown on the A350 from Detroit to five. The first to launch will be Amsterdam in March 2018, the first trans-Atlantic destination in Delta’s network to see the aircraft. The Shanghai route will follow in April.
“Amsterdam is our largest European hub and we’re delighted that Delta customers and those of our joint venture partner, KLM, will be able to enjoy an all-new Delta in-flight experience between Europe and the U.S.,” said Dwight James, senior vice-president – trans-Atlantic, Delta.
Delta’s A350s are configured with 32 Delta One Suites, each with a full-height door and full-flat bed and direct aisle access; 48 Delta Premium Select seats configured in a 2-4-2 layout; and 226 main-cabin seats in a 3-3-3 layout.
In recent months Delta concentrated on expansion in North Asia, and many of those new routes drove the company’s demand for new planes. Tokyo Narita (NRT) was the first Delta route to use the new A350, launched at the end of October.
