Delta Air Lines and Korean Air reached a new agreement to expand their historic partnership. The expanded trans-Pacific network will increase travel choices and boost competition between the United States and Asia.
The airlines signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a joint venture agreement offering customers access to the most comprehensive route network, industry-leading airline products, world-class airport facilities and a seamless travel experience.
“This agreement deepens our longstanding partnership with Korean Air and will provide the global access and seamless service our customers demand,” said Ed Bastian, chief executive officer, Delta. “We look forward to providing customers of both carriers with industry-leading service between the United States and Asia.”
Highlights of the agreement include the intent to create a fully integrated trans-Pacific joint venture arrangement with both airlines sharing the costs and revenues on flights and coordinating schedules; a combined network serving more than 290 destinations in the Americans and more than 80 in Asia; and enhanced frequent-flyer benefits, providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn and redeem in both programs. Before signing the agreement, the carriers will work to implement the aspects of the co-operation.
Delta will launch new a non-stop service between Atlanta (ATL) and Seoul (ICN) in June, a flight complementing Korean Air’s existing service. At the same time, Korean Air will continue to expand its United States–Korea network in the summer with the introduction of a third round-trip between Los Angeles (LAX) and Seoul, as well as a second flight between San Francisco (SFO) and Seoul.
