Conrad Singapore Orchard, Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ second location in Singapore, brings added dimension to the heart of Orchard Road’s entertainment and retail district. The original building, designed by American Neofuturistic architect John Portman, is reimagined as an urban oasis through extensive refurbishments and the curation of contemporary artwork from noted local and regional artisans. Lush landscaping around the building further offsets it within this luxury-driven enclave.
The property has 12 cascading floors of contemporary guestrooms, meeting spaces, restaurants and bars. The skylit atrium stands at the heart of Portman’s architectural marvel, illuminating the public space in natural light. Sculptures, including Stephanie Scuris’ Harmony Fountain and Michio Ihara’s Singapore Shower, draw guests into a visual exploration of Singapore’s rich botanical heritage. Each guestroom features prints by Singaporean artists, capturing the city’s charm through illustrations of native flora.

The hotel’s 10 restaurants and bars mirror the city’s international flavor. Michelin-starred Summer Palace provides a showcase for Cantonese cuisine elevated to sophisticated heights. Manhattan, lauded among the world’s best bars, is home to the world’s first in-hotel rickhouse, where its specialty cocktails are barrel-aged. Tea Lounge showcases afternoon teas that spotlight regional botanicals with English and local specialties, while Dolcetto offers casual day-to-night Italian fare with handcrafted pastries, pizzettas, coffee and cocktails.
The hotel’s 445 guestrooms combine a residential feel with botanical-inspired design to let guests experience the life of a Singapore local. Forty-six suites also achieve this, as well as a spacious lounge and expansive terrace. Dwellings feature floor-to-ceiling windows framed with plantation shutters that pull nature from the outdoors in. A palette of serene sand, cream and muted green hues teamed with accents of palm motifs and potted tropical trees further heighten the effect. The top-tier Conrad Suite spans 210 square meters and houses a main bedroom with lavish amenities, walk-in closet, steam shower, generous living and entertainment areas, a kitchenette, and a dining room for eight. It also connects to two separate guestrooms, each with its individual entrance.

An exclusive Sleep-to-Wake Ritual adds a greater sensory dimension to the stay with a calming pre-sleep tea crafted from local botanicals, an in-room guided sound bath to relax the mind and body, and an extensive pillow menu that provides tailored comfort for serene slumbers and rejuvenating resets. The Morning Intention Session by the pool, meanwhile, features modern fitness and wellness classes.
The hotel’s public areas continue the visual evocation of relaxation and reflection. An outdoor pool rests amidst verdant alcoves, while a well-equipped fitness center is conceptualized for mindful exercise. An executive lounge with serene balconies and 14 event venues (including the 6,275 square-foot grand Royal Pavilion Ballroom) provide the perfect balance of ambiance and versatility for meetings, celebrations and weddings.

In addition to an astute concierge staff, the property offers experiences to allow travelers to explore Singapore and its multicultural underpinnings in a meaningful way. These include an Edible Garden Walk, an immersive journey from the hotel to Singapore Botanical Gardens where guests discover edible botanicals that define the Singaporean landscape with the aid of a local botanist.

Apr 16, 2025Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review
Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.

Apr 15, 2025Pause for a Harmonious Blend of Wellness and Nature in Hong Kong
I was illiterate when I first visited Hong Kong. Aged 17, I couldn’t understand a word of the Chinese neon signs. But 40 years later, I have changed, Hong Kong has changed, and my ability to understand the signs has changed. Now I point my phone at the unintelligible script, open a translation app, and everything magically morphs into English. The exotic becomes mundane: Shoe Store. Office Supplies. Laundry. Dentist. Insurance Broker.
