Brooklyn’s Largest Hotel Gets A Makeover

Apr 12, 2015
Daily / Feature

The iconic New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is set to unveil the first part of a multimillion-dollar renovation and transformation next month.

The $43 million makeover project will occur in stages with the aim to transform the hotel physically in a way that reflects its setting in downtown Brooklyn. This May, the hotel will unveil a transformation of The Bar, front desk and new M Club Lounge, created specifically for frequent Marriott Rewards members.

Located off the hotel’s grand entrance, The Bar was designed with the help of Brooklyn-inspired artists and artisans, featuring original works, glass, metal, subway tiles and white marble tops. The venue will offer food and drinks locally sourced from Brooklyn, such as craft beers and coffee.

Designed with natural materials such as wood, rope and knots reflective of the nearby Brooklyn Navy Yard, the M Club Lounge is a spacious, light-filled lounge featuring a large communal table and casual menu items that can be enjoyed at any time of day.

The Front Desk has been recreated to as three reception pods to allow for more intimate interaction with guests. In partnership with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, the concierge team will be fluent in Brooklyn culture and events.

“Like many great pioneers, Marriott set the bar high when they opened the first hotel in Downtown Brooklyn almost two decades ago. Now, after 17 years of tremendous success — and having paved the way for countless other hotels to open in our great borough — New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is taking it to the next level once again with this incredible renovation plan,“ said Carlo Scissura, president and CEO, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. “This revamp will only improve an already beautiful hotel, making it an even bigger attraction to tourists from across the country and the world. The Brooklyn Chamber and ExploreBK.com are also thrilled to partner with the hotel to assist visitors in finding the very best that Brooklyn has to offer.”

The renovation of the hotel’s ballroom and meeting rooms will be completed in September. This spring, the hotel will also unveil the redesign of its 667 guestrooms. All guestroom renovations are scheduled for completion in 2016.
