This week, British Airways canceled its New York (JFK) flights from London Gatwick (LGW) over a five-month period between Dec. 12, 2024 and March 2025. The reason? The airline cited delays in delivery of engines and parts from Rolls-Royce, causing British Airlines to make changes to its winter flight schedule.
The delayed delivery of engine parts to power its Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets affected not only the JFK–Gatwick route but also service between London (LHR) and Kuala Lumpur (KUL), and London (LHR) and Doha (DOH). Currently, British Airways operates up to nine daily flights from London Gatwick to JFK.
“We’re disappointed that we’ve had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays to the delivery of engines and parts from Rolls-Royce – particularly in relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to our 787 aircraft,” British Airways said in a statement. “We’ve taken this action because we do not think the issue will be solved quickly, and we want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve.”
It’s unclear yet just how many flights will be canceled, with at least 100 flights expected to be. Flights between London Heathrow and JFK remain unaffected.
