As countries around the world take advantage of stellar high-speed train services, the United States still lags behind. But Brightline Trains plans to change that by introducing high-speed rail to the States’ infrastructure.
Brightline recently received a financial investment from The Virgin Group, which led to a rebranding as Virgin Trains USA. The first route the company will focus on Florida, connecting the cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach with high-speed rail service. After linking Southern Florida, Virgin Trains USA plans to move north to Orlando and Tampa, then west, connecting the oft-traveled route of Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
Train travel within the United States is not as rampant as it is in other parts of the world. Census data from between 2012 and 2016 reveal only 5 percent of American employees commute to work using public transportation and most get around by car. But Richard Branson and Virgin Trains USA hope to change that with high-speed rail connections among cities Americans typically access by car.
