September marked the start of Milwaukee Repertory Theater‘s 2024–25 season. The 12-production schedule started with Women of Rock.
Milwaukee native Mary Widrig John led a plan to bring professional theater to the city. The plan came to fruition when Drama Incorporated presented Sabrina Fair on Jan. 25, 1955, in Fred Miller Theater. Renamed Milwaukee Repertory Theater in 1963, it created a resident acting company and expanded to include classics and new works.
I looked forward to Women of Rock from the moment I saw it on the schedule. The world premiere featured a live concert of several performers giving fantastic renditions of songs from the 1960s to present. From Janis Joplin to Brandi Carlile, all legendary female performers were highlighted. This was like a greatest female hits of my life.

Created by Mark Clements and directed by Dan Kazemi, Women of Rock runs through Nov. 3. We loved it so much we are trying to schedule a return visit.

Another production, Prelude to a Kiss, a musical, ended this weekend, but there are still 10 other productions on the schedule. Marie and Rosetta starts next weekend. Future productions include A Christmas Carol, Million Dollar Quartet and eight others
