I recently joined my Global Traveler colleagues in New York for GT‘s annual Wines on the Wing event. In addition to a successful event, I enjoyed a lot of wonderful food.
I flew into Philadelphia to meet GT CEO and publisher Francis X. Gallagher for dinner at The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale. The potato asparagus soup was a thick, creamy start. Perfectly cooked scallops followed. Decadent but light raspberry chocolate cheesecake finished the meal
I stayed at Union League Club in New York where I enjoyed more great meals. The food highlights were French toast for breakfast and a turkey panini for lunch. I also must mention one of the best showers I ever had. The overhead shower provided plenty of pressure and heat. I took several of the longest showers of my life.
I also had time to roam around a bit. I walked to Times Square to soak in the NYC atmosphere. As a fan of public art, I enjoyed the temporary sculptures on several of the streets.
Held at City Winery, Wines on the Wing was an incredible evening. The best part for me was catching up a bit with the GT staff, who I don’t see often. As an added benefit, a few longtime friends were able to join the fun.

Remarkable Medellín
Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
