We’re Better Together

by Yasser Ogando

Jun 3, 2020

As we navigate through and process our feelings regarding the series of events that unfolded across the country over the past 10 days, many of us find ourselves conflicted between plugging away and staying informed.

I understand we all receive and process information differently, so I want to stress this week’s blog post was written from a place of love and unity.

As many participated in the #BlackOutTuesday initiative and refrained from posting on social platforms, the work offline never stopped. Below are a series of links to different sources of information and also organizations and causes you can donate to:

Support
Black Lives Matter
Minnesota Freedom Fund
Know Your Rights Camp
Official George Floyd Memorial Fund

Books (Complete list in picture below courtesy of Denisse Myrick, a digital content curator and award-winning photographer. Myrick also includes a list of organizations you can donate to here.)
White Fragility – by Robin Diangelo
So You Want to Talk About Race – by Ijeoma Oluo
How to Be an Antiracist – by Ibram X. Kendi

Movies/Shows
The Hate U Give – Hulu or Cinemax
When They See Us – Netflix
Dear White People – Hulu
13th – Netflix

We’re still dealing with a pandemic, so please protect yourselves and others and continue to practice social distancing. As you show up for others, make sure you show up for yourself; schedule a virtual paint and sip, have a little TLC moment, make your favorite meal or have a five-minute dance party.

My colleague Sarah Ward shared some amazing virtual tours in this blog. Make sure to check it out if you want a little escape from reality.

Stay safe and move with love!
