My first time in Texas couldn’t have had a warmer welcoming than with my stay at Virgin Hotel Dallas. Situated about a mile outside the downtown area, this 17-floor building stands out before one ever pulls up to the lobby.
I had come to Dallas a day early to explore the city, and I had always wanted to try a Virgin hotel. As my experience with Virgin Atlantic in the past was so positive, I was sure the same aesthetic and service would extend to its hotel department, too. In short, it did.
Friendly staff greeted me immediately. I waited an hour by the bar as I had arrived early, so I enjoyed a margherita flatbread for lunch while my room was being prepared. I stayed in a classic chamber room on the 16th floor and, upon entering, understood the designers of the space knew how to best cater to travelers looking for both efficient and cozy accommodations.
In the room on my right was the vanity with a sink, tall mirror and dimmable lights with plenty of counter space. Two cubby-like closets with robes, slippers and hangers flanked both sides of the vanity. I loved the separate table in this space, however, dedicated to makeup and prepping for a day (or night) out. Complete with a low-lying table and plush chair, this area included a mirror with a surrounding light that can be turned on for enhanced lighting for makeup. The bathroom and shower were in separate spaces, both with doors. The shower had that signature red color of Virgin incorporated within, as well.
In the main space sat my ultra-comfy bed, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows with blackout curtains; a modern-style couch and table; and counter with extra amenities for purchase like soft drinks, water, alcoholic drinks and snacks. There was even a retro-style Smeg fridge in that same bold red. The views from my room were unbeatable, overlooking the near-downtown area.
That day, after settling into my room, I headed to the fourth floor to lounge by the pool. I relaxed in a cabana and sipped on The Queen’s Cup, a cocktail featuring Absolut Elyx vodka, Pimm’s No. 1, Earl Grey simple syrup, ginger ale and lemon. After some time at the pool reading amongst the cozy cabana cushions shaded by a massive umbrella, I prepared for dinner down in the Common’s Club.
There, I went with the waitress’s recommendations, which consisted of Ora King salmon chop with smoked corn and, for dessert, these insanely tasty bourbon apple pie rangoons with citrus caramel. I embarrassingly ate them all … I couldn’t help myself. These dishes were complemented with handcrafted cocktails like the Spring Fling (Haku Vodka lychee martini with rose and lemon notes) and a classic espresso martini.
I was sad to leave but am glad to say my experience with Virgin brands continues to exceed my expectations. Virgin Hotel Dallas prepped me for even more exciting days to come as I attended my second GBTA.

Nov 21, 2024Immerse in an Invigorating Thermal Journey at Scandinave Spa Whistler
The glittering green pines and burst of jasmine lake beyond almost made me forget about the aches in my legs that slowly developed after the promised hour-long hike ran into the third hour. And, oh, there were my hips, showing up to remind me I was no longer in my 20s. I didn’t mind, though, because the vision that surrounded me during our guided walk through Garibaldi Park to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, British Columbia, with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures proved worthy of a thousand postcards.
