My father and I are flying to Florida to visit my sister and her husband. While he is pretty self-sufficient, traveling with my 87-year-old dad does require a little extra planning.
Our trip starts a day before our flight. Because he lives 50 miles south of Midway Airport, we always spend the night before in a hotel at the Midway Hotel Center. It eliminates an hour drive and potential road stress in the morning, allowing us both to relax.
This time we chose Holiday Inn. They offer regular free shuttles to Midway, and for a few extra dollars, you can park there for the duration of your trip. There are several dining options within the complex.

To eliminate one more variable, we both have TSA PreCheck. At only $85 each for five years, TSA PreCheck is well worth it. We breeze through security without removing shoes, jackets, belts and liquids from our luggage.
My dad can usually walk well; but because the rigors of travel make him tired, we utilize the wheelchairs at the airport. At first he was a bit too proud to take the ride, but eventually he realized it made things much easier.
By taking these extra steps, we both arrive in Florida well-rested and ready to enjoy every minute of our stay.
