Traveling With Little Ones

by Olivia Falcione

Jun 3, 2016

After having my first baby this past fall, I can definitely understand the anxiety of traveling with a little one. While I haven’t done so yet, I know when the time comes, stress will not be far behind.

I recently traveled (without my son) and when seeing other parents traveling with children, I now have a sense of compassion or sympathy towards them. Pre-motherhood, I would be sitting on board, fingers crossed that the woman walking down the aisle with her infant wasn’t seated next to me. Not very nice, I know, but it’s the truth, and I think a lot of travelers can relate to this feeling. Who wants to be on a flight with a crying baby? You’re trying to read, sleep, work or just think.

It’s nearly impossible to do any of this with a loud, fussy infant on board. However, what we sometimes forget is the loud, fussy infant is being held by a stressed-out parent who is only wanting the same thing you — peace and quiet. What if there was a way to change our disposition towards travelers with children? What if a crying baby could benefit you in some way? Benefit you like giving you a percentage off your next flight? This is actually possible, if you’re flying with JetBlue, that is.

Last month, JetBlue launched the FlyBabies campaign to prove how difficult it is to travel with little ones. On a flight from New York to California, a flight attendant announced for every baby that cried during the flight, every passenger would receive 25 percent off his or her next flight with JetBlue. That means four babies crying equals one free round-trip flight, which is quite a way to change a negative into a positive, as well as a pretty clever campaign for Mother’s Day. As a new mom, I appreciate this, JetBlue! You can check out the campaign video here.

Remarkable Medellín

Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.

Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel Review

There are a few words that come to mind when the subject of airport hotels comes up. Usually, fun, cute and lively aren’t on that list. When general manager Evgeny Vreijling or his team members welcome guests, they insist Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is not an airport hotel but a hotel that happens to be near the airport. He also emphasizes that, while Amsterdam is regarded as the gateway to Europe, the hotel was designed to be a gateway to the rest of the Netherlands.
